On-Site Millwork Dust Collector Fire – Insurance Evaluation *

Mr. Hutchison was engaged to provide a post-fire evaluation of a commercial millwork facility in Edmonton, Alberta by the facility’s insurer.  The facility suffered from a dust collector fire and deflagration that rendered one of their two main dust collection systems inoperable.

The insurer was provided engineering services as follows:

An estimate of the value of the installed dust collection equipment
An estimate of the cost to replace the non-conforming equipment with equipment of like kind and quality (LKQ)
An estimate of the cost to replace the dust collection system with a code-conforming system

The review of the facility’s dust collection equipment was completed in a compressed time frame in order to expedite the claims process to ensure the facility could return to normal operation as quickly as possible.
