Rio Tinto Alcan – Kitimat Operations – Wharf Dust Collection System Replacement – Phase 1
CURA provided Phase 1 engineering and design services for the replacement of the Wharf dust collection systems located in three towers of the site’s overland conveyor systems. The wharf conveying and overland conveyor system transports raw alumina ore and calcined coke from the K3 dock unloader through successive conveyor belts to raw material storage silos on site. The calcined coke is then processed and used to make anodes for the smelting pots and the alumina is processed into various grades of aluminum that is shipped to domestic and international markets.
CURA provided Prime and Mechanical Engineering services as well as advisory and interpretive services for laboratory testing of the site’s dust samples, and our integrated design team included a Structural Engineering consultant.
The Phase 1 engineering services targeted a 95% reduction of fugitive particulate.
