University of British Columbia Okanagan Campus – Science 3rd Floor Addition and Laboratory Manifold Ventilation Retrofit
During late 2003, the University of British Columbia finalized the takeover of the Okanagan University College North Kelowna Campus and additional floor space was immediately required at the campus for an increase in the student population.
The Science Building was constructed with an allowance to add a 3rd floor to the facilities and Mr. Hutchison was the Mechanical partner in charge for the expansion of the Science Building. During the expansion, the Science facility’s fume hood exhaust system was converted from an unsafe & outdated individual stack style to a modern laboratory manifold exhaust system using roof-mounted induced dilution/mixed flow fans with an effective stack height of approximately 80 feet.
A considerable amount of the building addition was dedicated to specialized research laboratories with specialized ventilation requirements, including earth science, mineral assay, biohazards, E-Coli and other chemical/biological ventilation hazards.
