Vernon Water Reclamation Plant *
A 29ML/day new/replacement wastewater treatment plant was designed and constructed for the City of Vernon BC. The new plant replaced an aged near-failure plant that featured only primary and partial secondary treatment of wastewater, that had its treatment processes unenclosed and in an open-air format.
The new treatment plant featured tripled waste treatment trains to allow for future expansion, as well as all primary treatment processes enclosed and served by carbon type adsorber odour control treatment equipment. The Plumbing, HVAC & Odour Control system was designed by Mr. Hutchison and the HVAC & Odour Control systems included a biogas capture & treatment system that fed dried biogas into a waste gas boiler to supply makeup air heating to the Headworks Building, as well as a small district energy underground heating loop that networked two of the major facilities together with hot water hydronic heating supply – the biogas burner reduces the use of purchased natural gas fuel for heating. An exhaust heat recovery system was fitted to the discharge air of the Headworks Building to preheat makeup air for the facility to reduce carbon emissions and natural gas usage.
The design and effectiveness of the odour control systems allowed the treatment plant to blend in with its surroundings and many nearby family residences.
